Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Wong originally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1997, and she worked as an engineer for five years here in Austin, TX before transitioning to being a stay-at-home mom. Through volunteer work in healthcare settings, she realized that she wanted a career that involved caring for others more directly, which led her to pursue dentistry. The rest, they say, is history!
Where Did You
Dr. Wong attended dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry after scoring in the 99th percentile on the Dental Admission Test. After achieving her Doctor of Dental Surgery, she briefly worked as an associate dentist in Round Rock before opening her very own dental office in Austin. Today, she is a proud member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association. Over the course of her career, she has pursued advanced training opportunities whenever possible to further expand her skillset, including time spent focusing on orthodontics and implantology in particular. This includes time spent lecturing on general and cosmetic dentistry at Hong Kong University to Kanazawa Dental University students of Japan.
Dr. Wong is also passionate about volunteering. In the past, she has donated her time to worthwhile causes like the Texas Mission of Mercy, St. Vincent de Paul Society’s “Access to Care” program, Capital Area Dental Foundation, and St. David’s Foundation.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Wong and her husband John have two sons. Justin has been admitted to the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and enjoys cooking and eating, while Jacob (a high school student) can often be found running around or playing piano. Both boys also love wrestling, and she spends plenty of time at their matches when not at the dental office. As a family, they enjoy hiking and traveling together – especially when it involves the beach! Of course, Dr. Wong loves hugging on her bichon frise, JoJo!
